80 percent of Europeans use the Internet for online travel planning. The revenue from travel & tourism in Western Europe is estimated to be over 50 billion euros in 2008. The revamped Scottish tourism web portal
www.VisitScotland.com meets this trend by incorporating a number of changes such as more information services and online bookable accommodation.
www.VisitScotland.com is now split into two distinct zones; the Visitor’s Guide and the Online Travel Shop. The Visitor’s Guide provides users with all the information they need about Scotland and its culture, attractions and sports and leisure facilities. The Online Travel Shop allows users to quickly and easily search and book accommodation and special offers such as packaged experiences and last-minute deals.
“With the relaunch of
www.VisitScotland.com, we wanted to clearly position ourselves as Scotland’s most important travel and information portal,” commented Marco Truffelli, CEO of ETourism Ltd, the company that runs VisitScotland.com. “Distinguishing between the Visitor`s Guide and the Online Travel Shop allows us to meet users’ different needs even better. If you are looking for information, you will find it in the Visitor`s Guide; if you wish to make a booking, the Online Travel Shop will have what you need.”
The Scottish web-based travel portal
www.VisitScotland.com was set up by a public-private partnership in 2002. Tiscover provided the complete technology for the booking and back office operations.
www.VisitScotland.com allows visitors to browse over 14,000 providers and 130 Tourist Information Centres. It is the UK’s most successful national tourism organisation’s website attracting 11 million web visits in 2007.
