Tiscover and the group of EC3 Networks, Siemens, Lixto and eCTRL won the international tender for developing the new tourist portal VisitFinland.com.

Finland’s tourism aims at presenting itself in a top modern way and with state-of-the-art technology for their web presence. Users should have access to video services, community technologies and mobile services. Moreover the booking of holidays in Finland should be made available online. Tiscover provides the concept and the design as well as the destination management system.

E-Tourism Know-How from Austria is in Demand all over the World

The executive board director of Tiscover, Konrad Plankensteiner, sees their work so far confirmed with this job: “Finland is in information technology matters one of the most developed countries of the world. We are extremely proud of implementing top modern e-tourism solutions based on reliable technologies together with Finland!” Jaakko Lehtonen, general manager of the Finnish Tourist Board (MEK) explains the decision for the group this way: “We are very pleased to cooperate with an internationally renowned partner. The new platform visitfinland.com is an important step into the future for Finnish tourism.” Inkeri Starry, the project manager, also emphasizes the strategic importance of the planned internet presence: “In combination with e-marketing steps of the Finnish travel industry, this new website aims at contributing to a general growth of the tourist sector.”

Tourism as an Increasingly Important Economic Factor in Finland

Since the 1990ies tourism has continuously gained in importance in Finland. In 2006 Finnish accommodation providers counted some 20 million bednights. To 2013 bednights should be increased to 25 million. In the previous year most tourists from abroad came from Russia. Then guests from Sweden, Germany and Great Britain follow and rank amongst the most important visitors of Finland.

Experienced Group from Austria

The development of the Finnish tourist portal is not the first major project of EC3 Networks (contractor) together with Tiscover, Siemens, Lixto and eCTRL (subcontractors). Already in 2006 the European tourist platform www.visiteurope.com was successfully realized on behalf of the European Travel Commission.
